Company Announcement
New York Wholesale Group of Hicksville, NY, has initiated a recall of several Zaarah Herbals products including Rasayan Churan, Gurmar Powder, Vasaka Powder, and Bhringraj Powder due to potential contamination with elevated levels of lead and arsenic. Short-term exposure to lead may not present symptoms; however, increased blood levels can be the only apparent sign of exposure. Long-term effects can severely impact health, particularly for fetuses and young children, leading to developmental defects and possible central nervous system damage. Adults may face risks such as kidney dysfunction and increased cardiovascular disease mortality with chronic exposure.
Arsenic, particularly in its inorganic form, poses significant health risks, including cancer, skin lesions, and cardiovascular problems. Fetal and early life exposures can affect neurodevelopment and raise lifetime cancer risks. The recalled products were available for retail distribution across New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and California between December 20, 2024, and January 7, 2025. Each product comes packaged in clear 100g (3.5oz) jars with gold lids, with the product name clearly displayed.
The recall includes specific batch codes for each product, which can be found on the back panel of the jars. No illnesses have been reported thus far. This recall follows an analysis by the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection, which identified elevated levels of the hazardous contaminants. Consumers who have purchased these products are strongly advised not to consume them and should return them to the point of purchase for a full refund. For further inquiries, customers can reach the company at 1-800-516-7606 from Monday to Friday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM EST.
