Company Announcement
EL SEGUNDO, CA, February 7, 2025 – Tri-Union Seafoods has decided to voluntarily recall select lots of canned tuna products sold under the Genova®, Van Camp’s®, H-E-B, and Trader Joe’s brand names. This recall follows a notification from the supplier regarding a defect in the “easy open” pull tab can lid that may compromise the product seal, which could lead to leakage or contamination with clostridium botulinum, a potential cause of botulism, a serious food poisoning. Consumers are urged not to use the affected products, even if they appear unaffected. Anyone feeling unwell after consuming these products should seek immediate medical attention. No illnesses related to the recalled products have been reported, and the recall aims to prioritize consumer safety.
The implicated products were distributed primarily to retail stores across various states: H-E-B in Texas; Trader Joe’s in multiple states including Delaware, Illinois, and New York; Genova products to Costco in Florida and Georgia; and Van Camp’s in Walmart and independent retailers in select states including Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
Consumers are advised to check the can codes and Best if Used By dates on the bottom of the cans to confirm if they have an affected product. If they do, they should return the item to the retailer for a full refund, dispose of it properly, or contact Tri-Union Seafoods directly for a retrieval kit and a coupon for a replacement product. The company can be reached at support@thaiunionhelp.zendesk.com or 833-374-0171, Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST.
It is important to note that this recall does not impact any other products from Tri-Union Seafoods, as no other packaging was affected. Tri-Union Seafoods remains committed to maintaining high safety and quality standards in its products.
